Hi everyone!
Looks like i'm a little late for all the chatter! Time zones don't help, but I am also chasing Puppies around! lol.....they finally went down for naps! now i have some time without having to run the new puppy out, trying to potty train. It is my daughters puppy, but i'm raising it! well I did tell her it was okay, but when they stare at you with those sad eyes, how can you say no! :) And my little guy is still not totally trusty worthy yet either. I know he should be,but he still gets distracted outside and then wants to come in before he totally finishes. We have to take them out on leashes since they can both get thru the fence, and there is so much to see on the other side ya know! lol we are going to put up some type of chicken wire so that we don't have to keep doing that, but my DH has been telling me that since may.....hmmm...I don't think it is high on his list! well it is going to be a pain to do I have to admit.
It is rainy and cold here today, not cold like you all are dealing with, but it does help with the Christmas preparation when it is cold instead of 80 outside.

I am one of those crazy san dieagns that would rather have it raining for Christmas, since we aren't in the mountains where there is snow.
we don't have to drive to far to get there, but still it would be beautiful to wake up to on Christmas morning.
Happy Chanukah Cathy!
And I do agree with you all that it is sad that some Christians have forgotten the Traditions and customs that are the foundations of our Faiths.
I am Roman Catholic and our faith is so heavly based in Judaism.
But if people don't take the time to learn the Old Testament they won't understand that.
Deb I hope you can get to that battery! We have been thru that, but it was the one in our bedroom on the vaulted part of the ceiling of course!
Maybe try ear plugs tonight if you can't get to it today.

doesn't make a lick of sense to me either, Cathy, but you wouldn't believe the flack I would get from some of the people in church when I would try to teach teh children about the holidays. it is OUR heritage and OUR history - not a theirs and ours kind of thing. we should accept the beauty of what brings us together not what separates us.

anyhow, have a wonderful day, friends! I am off to try to catch up on a bit of crafting! I hope anyhow. some pink shimmerz are calling my name and I had better go find something fun to do with them before they revolt! :D

I don't understand why more Christians don't understand that their roots are in Judaism. Our entire "bible" is the Old Testament. So up until that point, our views and teachings are virtually identical. But few people, like you Jennifer, take the time to point this out. My mother is not Jewish - my paternal family is and my grandmother was the guiding force in how I was raised. My mother will not come to Chanukah or Passover at my house. Never mind that they are not uniquely "Jewish" events.... they are in her Old Testament too.... and never mind that they are events in history! It's nuts!

Yikes, you be CAREFUL!!!!! We have one on the cathedral ceiling in our LR too, and it's OVER THE STAIRS that go down to the family room. Like WHY THERE????? What are these builders thinking???? My husband has to place boards across the stair opening and set up a ladder on the boards. My sons hold the ladder (more for my sake than anything else - I totally freak over this one) while he changes it.
Deb Felts Comment by Deb Felts on December 11, 2009 at 11:19am
Yep, you girls are right! There IS a 9v battery inside even though it is hard-wired...so I'll be dragging in the tall ladder and hoping that Matthew can crawl up there to replace it. Otherwise I'll be tippy-toeing even WITH the ladder to make it to the top of the plant shelf to do it myself!

OK...I'm really off! Hope y'all have a warm, wonderful day! :)

as a Sunday School teacher I would always try to incorporate as much of our Jewish history into lessons as I could. I thought, and still do feel, that is was important to understand ALL of the history of the Bible when teaching the children. so we celebrated as many of the holidays as we were allowed.

my boys are some of the only ones around who know the real meaning of why challah bread looks the way it does.

Jennifer, you are BAD to the BONE! That was GOOD! The symbolism related to Chanukah is RICH with history, and I am named for the Jewish heroine of the whole thing! We Jews have our given name and also our Jewish name. Mine is Yehudit (Hebrew for Judith) and Judith of Maccabee is the real reason we celebrate Chanukah. I'm posting the story on my blog today. I'll post a link here when it's up. ;)

No, she can't reach it - it's on her vault ceiling!
