Here are some quick directions: For the box bottom:

  1. Cut a square to 8 1/2 x 8 1/2.
  2. Score this piece on all sides at 2 1/2.
  3. Cut the flaps as shown in the picture and glue them to create the bottom of the box.

For the box top:
  1. Cut a square to 5"x5".
  2. Score this piece on all sides at 1".
  3. If desired, use a punch or die (I used the Labels One Nestability) to create a window in the lid of the box. Adhere a piece of acetate inside the lid to cover the window.
  4. Cut the flaps as shown above and glue them to create the top of the box.

(I got several comments on the box top dimensions and that 5x5 was too small. It did work for me -- the box should be 3x3, so add an inch on all sides makes it 5x5. You can up it to 5 1/2" and score at 1" on all sides and see if that gives you more wiggle room.)

For the cupcake insert (this supports whatever you put inside your box):
  1. Cut a square to 5.75 x 5.75.
  2. Score this piece on all sides at 1 1/2".
  3. If desired, use a punch or die (I used a circle Nestability) to create a hole in the middle of the support to hold your item.
  4. Cut the flaps as shown above and glue them to create the insert for the box.

I can't wait to see what you make!

NO! It's a typ-o that I'm glad you caught -- it should be 2 1/2. I corrected it.
