My DH just said that I could order a new paper cutter (DS just broke my cheap one) for cleaning out the garage :) I would like to by a really good table top one that'll be used for scrapbooking, card making, projects, etc. I like the wheel kind more as I've been really hurt by the chopper kind and I do have two small children around and don't want them to get hurt. Any ideas/suggestions would be GREAT!
I have been very happy with my Carl it has taken a lot of abuse over the past 5 years teaching classes with many people using it and it is still accurate. The only negative that I don't like about it is that the board only measures 9x12 inches so if your trying to cut 12x12 it can be a bit of extra work. Mine has just started to show some wear with some of the numerals/lines on the board wearing off. The model is RT-200 by Carl.
I use the school guillotine cutter, but it doesn't cut the narrow stirps; but also have a making memories new folding cutter for all sizes of papers and card markings on the cutter. Lovin it. that's here: http://www.makingmemories.com/Products/detail/paper-trimmer
I absolutely LOVE my paper trimmer....it is by Making Memories 12 x 12 Precision Paper Trimmer with Self-Sharpening Blade. I bought it at Michael's with a sale coupon. The cuts are very precise (as the name implies) and the best part is that you NEVER have to buy a replacement blade. Also, the company stands behind the product. My DH used my trimmer and put way too much paper through at one time, and used way too much force and bent the main housing. I wrote the company to see if I could buy replacement parts, and they sent me a whole new trimmer totally free of charge. That is service! I find that for very fine cuts, it is best to put the cutting wheel to the top of the cutter and pull it toward yourself. That way you can literally shave off a hair's width of paper. You won't regret buying this cutter.
I've gone through so many cutters..my current one is from making memories and it is better than the fiskars and carl cutters I've previously had, but still not top notch. My friend has a Genesis cutter and it is the best thing I have ever used. The problem - the price. It was over $200 when I last checked and they were a couple of years behind in their orders. Yes, a couple of years, because they were redoing their manufacturing. They kept everyone's order and last I heard they were filling orders from 2005.
If they ever get caught up with orders I would spend the money, because I have spent more than that over the years replacing the ones i don't like!
I have the SU tabletop cutter and it is the best cutter I have ever owned. I have had Fiskars, Carl, and the cricut one. It is portable and can be used up to 12 x 12 paper, and you never have to buy blades as is is self-sharpening!
